- Are you stiff, sore and lacking in mobility?
- Do you suffer from a stubborn injury or ailments that aren't getting any better?
At Tension Release, we offer Deep Tissue Massage in our Melbourne clinic. Deep Tissue Massage helps to ease muscle tension and assists with a range of health concerns.
This style of massage is perfect for areas that are chronically tense, like stiffness in the neck, tightness in the lower back, and sore shoulders. It eases chronic pain and helps speed recovery from sports and other injuries.
After a Deep Tissue Massage, you'll feel looser and more flexible all over. You may be able to move freely in areas that were stiff before. From moving your head from side to side without pain to being able to lace your shoes up without feeling a twinge in your lower back.
How Does it Work?
The definition of Deep Tissue Massage is simple: as the name suggests, it's designed to relieve severe tension in the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues. Also helps to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from the muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly.
Chronic muscle tension or injury can lead to adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) developing in muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain and inflammation, as well as limiting movement.
It works to relieve pain and restore normal movement by physically breaking down adhesions, releasing deeply held tension points. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct, deep pressure or friction along the grain of the muscle.
The massage therapist may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows and forearms during the massage.
You may be asked to breathe deeply as the massage therapist works on particularly tense areas.
The massage therapist never applies deep pressure for its own sake. The level of pressure may be strong but it should not be painful. It's important to let the therapist know if you're feeling uncomfortable with the level of pressure.
It's also important to drink plenty of water after the massage to flush metabolic waste from the tissues.
Preparing for Your Deep Tissue Massage
On the day of your appointment, eat lightly. Increase your intake of water and try to minimise sugar and caffeine.
